Specifically, it refers to the accident of finding something good or useful while not specifically searching for it.

 

As a social enterprise project of The Arc, Warren County Chapter, we applied this curious name to our downtown Washington boutique in the hope that shoppers would make two satisfying discoveries there. Not only would they access desirable and reasonably priced gift items, but they would also encounter unusually amiable salespeople. Serendipity is staffed by adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities who are naturally nice and excited to be productive workers.
